SPN 1347 - FMI 3 (Fault Code: Engine Fuel Pump Pressurizing 1 Circuit - Voltage Above Normal or Shorted to High Source)

Fault Code 0272 (Cummins QSK60)

Figure 1.1 - Electronic Fuel Control Actuator

1). Datalink Adapter (USB-Link 3/NEXIQ) is connected to the computer, the key switch is ON, and that power is supplied to the Datalink Adapter (connected to a J1939). Read More: How to Connecting CUMMINS Engines using Cummins INSITE Software.

2). Select Fault Codes from the Viewbar.

→Double-clicking on the selected Fault Code (0272), to open the Troubleshooting Manual. Read More: SPN 1347 - FMI 3 (Fault Code 272).

REASON = High signal voltage or open circuit is detected at the Fuel Pump Pressurizing Assembly circuit. EFFECTEngine may run rough, may stop running, may not start, or may be difficult to start.

3). Troubleshooting Fault Code 272
A. Fuel Pump Pressurizing Assembly Resistance Check
Disconnect the Fuel Pump Pressurizing Assembly from the Engine wiring harness, inspect the pins and connectors for damage (moisture in connector, bent or expanded pins, corroded pins, or pushed back pins).
→Remove the three inner capscrews, and discard the o-ring (refer to Figure 1.1 above).
Measure the resistance from the SIGNAL pin (1) and RETURN pin (2) in the connector (must measure above 100k ohms), check for a short to ground. If no harness issues are found, replace the Fuel Pump Pressurizing Assembly (with P/N 2881177).

B. Fuel Pump Actuator Open Circuit Check
Disconnect the Engine wiring harness connector from the ECM 3 (Address 00).
Measure the resistance between the Engine wiring harness Fuel Pump Actuator RETURN pin (14) and SIGNAL pin (10) at the ECM connector of the Engine wiring harness and the Fuel Pump Actuator RETURN pin (2) and SIGNAL pin (1) at the Fuel Pump Actuator connector (refer to the circuit diagram Figure 1.3 above).
A malfunctioning Engine wiring harness has been detected if the resistance is greater than the following specification: 10 ohms.

C. Fuel Pump Actuator Circuit Pin to Ground Short
Measure the resistance between the Fuel Pump Actuator SIGNAL pin (10) of the Engine wiring harness ECM connector and ground.
A malfunctioning Engine wiring harness has been detected if the resistance is less than the following specification: 100k ohms.

D. ECM calibration revision history check
If a calibration update for this fault code is available, the Engine Control Module calibration revision must be that revision or higher.

E. Fuel Pump Actuator is malfunctioning
→Replace the Fuel Pump Actuator
