#Purpose:
The Cylinder Cutout Test allows one cylinder or multiple cylinders to be cut out. The Cylinder Cutout Test is useful when troubleshooting poor engine performance or a suspected Injector failure.

#Test Operation:
The Cylinder Cutout Test disables the Injector by not providing the Injector pulse to the Solenoid. The Cylinder Cutout Test can be performed on one Injector or multiple Injectors at once.

#Accessing:
To run the Cylinder Cutout Test:
1). Connect to CAT ET Software to the ECM. Read More: How to Connecting Caterpillar ET Software to the ECM.
2). Select Diagnostic Tests from the Diagnostics menu.

3). Select Cylinder Cutout Test from the submenu. Click Start.

4). Click Start or Change.

5). Test Complete! (refer to Figure 1.1 above). Click OK.

6). Click Yes to save the Cylinder Cutout results to a file.

#Screen Layout
The Cylinder Cutout screen has the following areas:
A. Display Area
The Cylinder Cutout display area has three columns.
  • The Cylinder column lists the available Cylinder numbers.
  • The Mode column displays the status (Powered or Cutout) of the Cylinder being tested.
  • The third column may be titled Fuel Position, Injector Duration, or Delivered Fuel Volume [mm3], depending on the type of application being serviced. This column displays how much fuel is flowing through the Injector.

B. Status Parameter Area
The Cylinder Cutout parameter area lists parameters and their current values. This area is located on the right side of the screen.
C. Buttons
The buttons available in the Cylinder Cutout screen are:
  • Change – Click this button switch the selected cylinder between the Cutout and Powered mode. Note: more than one cylinder can be in the Cutout state at one time. This button is disabled once the Start button is clicked until either the Stop button is clicked or the test is disabled.
  • Power All – Click this button to return all cylinders to the powered, or active, state. It is enabled when one or more cylinders are in the Cutout state.
  • Start – Click this button to begin the Cylinder Cutout TestNote: Once the test has begun, this button function will change to Stop. The Start function will be disabled until either the Stop button is clicked or the test is complete.
