FREE Caterpillar ET Software: Using Histogram

Histogram

Figure 1.1 - Lifetime: Time vs Engine Coolant Temperature (1)

#Purpose
The Histogram function views two-dimensional and three dimensional histograms. A Histogram is a graphical or charted representation of the parameters data over time. The Total Hours displayed in the Histogram may not correspond to total Engine running hours. Histograms only accumulate data at the most appropriate running conditions to maximize the value of the Histogram information.

#Accessing
Perform the following steps to view a histogram:
1). Connect CAT ET to the ECM. Read More: How to Connecting Caterpillar ET Software to the ECM.

2). Select Histogram… from the Information menu. If more than one Histogram exists on the ECM, the Histogram Selector dialog box will display all of the available Histograms.

3). Highlight the desired Histogram from the Histogram Selector dialog box and click OK. The Histogram screen displays with the selected information (refer to Figure 1.1 above).

#Screen Layout
The Histogram screen has the following areas:
A. Graph Layout
Two-dimensional Histograms compare two parameters and display this data using a bar graph. Three dimensional Histograms compare three parameters and display this data using a tabular chart.
B. View Options Drop-down List
The available options in the View Options drop-down list depend upon the type of Histogram selected:
  • For two-dimensional Histograms, the drop-down list provides label options. Users may either choose to show all labels on the Histogram or only when a bin is moused over. (Note: The mouse-over option is automatically selected when the number of bins is greater than 30). Additionally, users may choose to view the graph at up to 8x its standard size.

  • For three dimensional Histograms, the drop-down list provides options for the standard of measurement to be used in the chart, for example, percentage.
C. Buttons
The Histograms... button is available on the Histogram screen. Click this button to display the Histogram Selector dialog box.
